GEMINI TO CO-SPONSOR SUMMER PARK JAMS IN HIP-HOP EPICENTER OF SOUTH BRONX’S CROTONA PARK

A cornerstone in the building blocks of hip-hop music and culture with its DJ mixers and turntables, Gemini is proud to announce its participation in Tools of War Productions’ annual summer True School Hip-Hop NYC Park Jams. Located in what is arguably the epicenter of Hip-Hop culture, South Bronx’s Crotona Park, these free, all-ages events will take place every Thursday in July from 6pm to 9pm.

Going into it's fourth year, the True School Hip-Hop NYC Park Jams in Crotona Park are the closest Hip-Hop fans are going to get today to an authentic Bronx park jam from the 70s! Author Jeff Chang, in his award winning book, Can't Stop Won't Stop, describes Crotona Park as the epicenter of a 7 mile area where Hip-Hop music and culture was concentrated in the mid-1970's.

"At the epicenter of this great renaissance were the jams. Block parties became our pow-wows” explains Rock Steady Crew member, Tools of War co-founder, and Park Jams host Jorge “Fabel” Pabon. “They provided an alternative to the negative activities that plagued our neighborhoods. Outdoor jams and community events provided a platform for the unification of various art forms. DJs, MCs, dancers and writers became identified as components of a common movement, eventually labeled 'Hip Hop'."

Hip Hop enthusiasts and practitioners worldwide are marking their calendars to witness a phenomenon that those who weren't there at Hip Hop's emergence could only dream of!
