Hip-hop Icons Public Enemy Feature Gemini CDT-05 Hybrid Turntable On New Album, Beats And Places

October 16, 2006, Edison, NJ - In 1974, Gemini (now a part of GCI Technologies) rewrote the rules, innovating the art of DJ'ing with their influential mixers which later gave rise to the development of turntablism, rap music, and hip-hop culture. Over a decade later, Long Island, NY's Public Enemy rewrote the rules of hip-hop, becoming the most influential and controversial rap group of the late '80s and, for many, the definitive rap group of all time.

Now fast forward again and these two prime forces have teamed up together on Public Enemy's new album, entitled Beats And Places, to push the envelope yet again. Released Tuesday, October 31st, 2006 on the group's own Slamjamz label, the album features the undeniable scratching skills of PE producer and DJ Johnny "Juice" Rosado as realized on Gemini's groundbreaking new CD/vinyl hybrid turntable, the CDT-05.

Since the CDT-05's release to retailers this Summer, the unit has received rave reviews from both DJ's and the industry alike. UK turntablist and 1999 World ITF champion Prime Cuts proclaimed "…it's like using a traditional turntable. It's amazing," and one reviewer decreed, "If this is the shape of things to come for Gemini, then it's on the right path."

Blown away by the CDT's control and versatility at a recent trade show, Rosado pleaded to use the then-unreleased unit to complete some tracks on the band's new album, most notably a track called "Grand Theft Oil". On this politically-charged track, Johnny "Juice" Rosado uses the CDT-05 to deftly cut, paste, and scratch sound bites and dialogue from George W. Bush into a powerful pastiche around lead rapper Chuck D's authoritative baritone commentary about the state of America's dependence on foreign oil and the Iraq War.

"The CDT-05 is the ultimate tool," raves Rosado, who has been a part of the group's production team since they first started. "The unit's ability to seamlessly integrate the best of both worlds makes it ideal for both the mobile DJ and the seasoned scratch professional."

Gemini, a part of GCI Technologies, has been servicing the Professional Audio and DJ communities for over 30 years, and continues to bring innovative and valuable tools to the market.
